Group 4 Technology Wins Best Integrated Security Solution Award

Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire, November 7, 2006 – Group 4 Technology (G4Tec), along with Group 4 Securicor (G4S) won SMT’s Best Integrated Security Solution award for the AEGIS project. Winners were announced at the Security Excellence Awards 2006 event held at the London Hilton Hotel.

Now in its eighth year, the event is organised by Security Management Today (SMT), Security Installer and Platform magazine, and attracts the attention of hundreds of the industry's key players and figureheads, whether they are members of leading trade associations, training or inspection bodies, in-house or contract security managers, installers or security consultants.

“We are honored to have received such a prestigious award,” said G4Tec, MD ESS, Jim Clarkson. “Our combined effort with G4S provided a truly enhanced security solution with a state of the art electronic security system and manned security working in perfect harmony to improve our customer’s bottom line. It’s great to be recognised for that effort.”

G4Tec and G4S provided the AEGIS Project (Automated Electronic Guarding InitiativeS) with enhanced security throughout its estate portfolio, whilst at the same time providing a year on year cost saving by the reduction in a manned security presence. The key objectives have been achieved by the integration of various elements of electronic security, the hub of which being G4Tec’s Security Management and Access Control System interfaced with sub elements encompassing, Audio/Video, Intruder Detection and Public Address Systems. The system secures almost 700 individual sites with 110,000 card holders throughout the UK that are monitored from the Access Information Centre (AIC) in Tewkesbury. The project is expected to grow to 800 sites by early 2007.

The AEGIS system employs card readers with integral keypads for enhanced security, supported by audio and video facilities to provide access control of main or nominated entrances to buildings. Further card reader control is employed at those facilities wishing to control pedestrian movement to other internal areas. Vehicle barriers are used in conjunction with card readers and audio/video intercoms to control and monitor entry to car parks. G4S’s 24 hour AIC provides centralised management and administration for the AEGIS system together with help desk facilities. G4Tec’s 24/7 Service Centre provides technical support for the AIC and remote sites.
